Job Description:
SourceForge is recruiting for an Interaction Designer to lead the design effort for a new SourceForge property. This new property will fit within the expanding SourceForge product family (SourceForge.net, SourceForge On-Demand, SourceForge Community Edition & SourceForge Enterprise Edition).

The product development team at SourceForge is a tightly integrated group of software engineers, product managers, quality assurance, and support engineers that strive to continually improve our product and development process. In this role, you will work closely with product managers and the engineering team in defining the user interface for the next generation SourceForge applications.

Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have at least four (4) years of experience in interaction design for large-scale e-commerce applications or web sites.
  • Work with product management to define user interfaces for upcoming product releases
  • Communicate user interface and interaction designs through UI prototypes, navigation maps, and other prototyping methodologies
  • Iterate on designs during the development lifecycle
  • Advocate for users, and continually strive to improve the usability and simplicity of our products
  • Think outside of the box to develop better and simpler ways to help users achieve their goals

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in human factors, industrial design, or 4+ years of equivalent industry experience
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Must have significantly contributed to the design and rollout of a successful web-based application
  • Able to communicate well, be flexible and self-motivated, and work well in a collaborative environment
  • Open to change and learning new skills as they relate to the design/development process
  • Familiarity with usability engineering methodologies and user-centered design
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong design process
  • Solid understanding of CSS, JavaScript, and latest web technologies/standards
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience designing AJAX applications a plus
  • Experience working with personas a plus
  • Familiar with agile development methodologies (SCRUM, XP etc.)
